Even in today's high-tech society, your home is being built by hand. Our builders are highly skilled craftsmen who take great pride in their work. And it shows.

Hard hats and hard surfaces
You may want to visit the construction site of your new home. You may even want to visit a couple of times. You'll have the chance to watch your home move along the construction continuum - from framing and drywall to the installation of cabinets and countertops. For your safety, any time you visit your home site you must be accompanied by a William Lyon Homes representative. You'll also need to wear a hard hat and sign a construction waiver in the sales center. Call the sales center to schedule a site visit appointment. Be sure to call the sales center at least 48 hours in advance so we can arrange for someone to accompany you.

From open wall "walk" to sidewalk
At William Lyon Homes we have a very thorough control program, which includes various inspections throughout the building process. These inspections are conducted not only by our highly experienced and qualified Construction and Warranty representatives, but we also have several third-party professionals inspecting the quality of your new home including you.

At three points during the construction process, we'll ask you to actually participate first-hand in the progress of your new home.

[Open Wall Orientation] - [Pre-Flooring Orientation] -
[New Home Orientation]

To get the most out of your orientations, it's a good idea to take notes. You'll want to bring a notepad and pen, and leave your schedule open for at least a couple of hours. It's best not to have distractions when you're going through this process, so try not to bring your friends, relatives, children or anyone else whose curiosity might get the better of them.

Open Wall Orientation
First will be your Open Wall Orientation. We'll contact you when it's time to schedule this formal introduction. At this phase of construction, you'll notice that your home has developed beyond the floorplan stage. Your home has a strong foundation, and framers have created the structure that dictates the rest of the construction process. So the Open Wall Orientation presents an ideal opportunity to get to know your new home from the inside out. You'll be amazed at the early progress. And you'll have a more sophisticated understanding of how your home is being built.

During your Open Wall Orientation you will:

  • Meet the Construction representative, who supervises the construction of your new home. They will explain items including building practices, code requirements, and building schedule expectations.
  • Have an opportunity to confirm all of your in-wall options have been installed and are in the correct locations.
  • Have a better understanding of the remaining construction process and estimated close of escrow target dates.

Pre Flooring Orientation
This Pre-Flooring Orientation represents your first real contact with your almost completed home. It is your opportunity, as the end-user of the product, to be involved in this very important step in the building process.

During your Pre-Flooring Orientation you will:

  • Meet the Warranty Service representative.
  • Have an opportunity to confirm that all of your design center options and upgrades have been installed and are the correct selections.
  • Confirm flooring diagrams and transition points are correct.
  • Confirm your New Home Orientation and Close of Escrow dates.

During the last two weeks of construction, your flooring will be installed, so your home will be "off limits" during this time for safety and liability reasons until the flooring installation is complete.

After flooring is installed, we'll ask you to join us for your New Home Orientation (sometimes also referred to as a final walk-through). During which you will become acquainted with the interior and exterior features of your new home. Then, all that's left are the finishing touches!

New Home Orientation
About 3 to 5 days prior to closing escrow, we'll take you on your New Home Orientation, during which you'll be able to:

  • View your completed home prior to move in.
  • Learn how to obtain Warranty Service in the future.
  • Learn how your new home functions and how to maintain your home to ensure that it remains in top condition throughout the years.
